2014 Annual Sponsors

September 19&20 , 2015 is the date we welcome the Whidbey Island Kite Festival to the Camp Casey Conference Center, located south of Coupeville. With beautiful views of the Olympic Mountains and the Puget Sound regios, the kite festival features impressive ground and air displays of color and imagination.

The Whidbey Island Kite Festival now in it's 15th year has been an annual event drawing tourists from all over the Northwest. We draw attendees not only from the Island and immediate surroundings, but also from Western Washington, Oregon, and Canada. This event is being held at the same time as the Tour de Whidbey biking event, and makes the weekend so much fun!

The Kite Festival promotes kite making and kite flying of all kinds: single line, dual line and quad line kites. There is a sportkite competition, kids kitemaking, sportkite lessons, as well as a teddy bear drop for the younger kids, mass ascensions every day, etc. This is a family oriented event so we try to provide activities and entertainment for all ages. There is also an Indoor Competition on Saturday night normally held at the Coupeville High School gym, which is amazing and gaining in popularity.

The highlight of the weekend is the Whidbey Island Sport Kite Championships, one of the premier sportkite competitions in the Pacific Northwest. Individual, pairs, and team events are included.

Competition takes place both Saturday and Sunday on the field. Saturday night the Indoor Competition event is held at the Coupeville High School Gym. These are AKA-sanctioned (www.aka.kite.org) events. All events are free!!

TOUR DE WHIDBEY

Saturday, September 19

Love biking? we are welcoming back the Tour de Whidbey event on Saturday, Septermber 19, 2015

We look forward to seeing familiar faces return, and new faces discover Whidbey Island’s beauty and rider-friendly routes.  Whether you are a seasoned rider or a family enjoying the virtually flat 10 mile route, you will love this Tour!

Tesla Motors will be joining us this year with a special raffle for car rides to help support our efforts!

You will love the country roads of Whidbey Island!

One of the most beautiful islands of Puget Sound, Whidbey Island has some of the most scenic vistas in all of Washington State. As riders bike the back roads, they will experience unique scenery and varied terrain.

Riders have six routes to choose from, each with a hospitality breakstation every 10-12 miles.

100 mile route that is a figure-8 course, beginning and ending at the historic Greenbank Farm.  It is considered one of the more challenging century rides in the state.

Two 50 mile routes, which offer riders a choice of enjoying Central/North or Central/South Whidbey Island sights and scenes.  Either will give intermediate riders a workout.

40 mile and 30 mile South Whidbey routes that provide the same gorgeous scenery but with less elevation change.

A family friendly 10 mile route that has a virtually flat route through historic prairie, beach and farm lands west of the town of Coupeville.

WHIDBEY ISLAND FARM TOUR

September

Whidbey Island farmers are raising all kinds of crops and livestock, including over 200 varieties of fruits and veggies and dozens of types of animals for meat, eggs, dairy, fiber, and fun!

Many farmers are also creating value-added products directly from what they raise. Taste locally made cheese, jam, or spirits.  Learn about Consumer Supported Agriculture.  See how farms are raising grass-fed and free-range beef cows, goats, hogs, and poultry.  Meet friendly alpacas, llamas, and horses.

Many farms will be hosting other farmers, food purveyors, and entertainers, so there is bound to be something for everyone!  The tour is FREE!  Bring the kids and spend the day ‘down on the farm’.  Or make a weekend of it and stay at a Bed & Breakfast and feast at any of the many Whidbey restaurants featuring local farm foods.
