“Through a Child’s Eye”
A Photography Exhibition
Featuring the work of Calyx School Children ages 8-11
Bayview Cash Store, Second Floor Gallery
February 8 through February 28
In mid-October three Calyx students unboxed new Nikon Coolpix cameras and began photography lessons with local photographer David Welton. Building on the childrens’ innate sense of composition, color, pattern and perspective, and a Calyx foundation of visual literacy and creative practice, they were taught photography basics. They learned how to change settings to express their artistic vision and how to paint with light, using a camera instead of a brush. Aaliyah, Arcani and Tasa are now ready to share portraits, abstractions, nature and wildlife photographs, and visual stories. "This is not refrigerator art," says Welton.
We hope you will come and see through the eyes of a child.
