Outcast Productions Presents: Timely Twain
Written and Performed by Jim Carroll, Directed by David Ossman
Twain is arguably our most famous American author and humorist. He was also an
important and influential social icon. Timely Twain opens with the witty
storyteller. Then we see him use his podium to deliver his wry political and social
commentary. Finally, the numerous tragedies in his personal life appear to lead
him to a darker, disappointed cynicism.
Samuel Clemens followed every personal tragedy with surges of creative energy
and productivity. There's no doubt he would have done so again but for an
appointment with Halley’s Comet in 1910. With faith in Clemens’s indomitable
nature, the playwright gives Captain Stormfield, Twain’s posthumous alter ego,
the last word.
Director David Ossman comments: “It’s a great pleasure to help bring new work to Whidbey stages, and OutCast is the perfect venue for Jim Carroll’s stirring one-man show, which embraces Twain’s beautiful writing and colorful characters, while bringing them all into our equally troubled times.”
