Description
Passing on the Natural Legacy of our Islands For more than 26 years the Whidbey Camano Land Trust has protected our islands’ most important natural habitats, scenic vistas, and working farms and forests in partnership with landowners and our island communities. What We Do •Acquire land and conservation easements through donations and purchase. We have protected coastal areas, wetlands and streams, wildlife habitat, working farmlands, scenic vistas, natural areas and trails. Example •Provide expertise to private landowners interested in permanently protecting the conservation values of their land. Example •Use a variety of conservation tools and techniques to protect land. Valuable tax benefits are often available for landowners as added incentives for choosing to conserve land. Example •Provide ongoing stewardship on the properties we own and the conservation easements we hold. Example •Work with local, state and federal agencies and community organizations on important land conservation projects. Example We focus on lands that are critical to our islands’: •118 watersheds composed of wetlands, streams and forests providing natural habitat and aquifer recharge to protect our drinking water. •200+ miles of shoreline, coastal bluffs, and 15 major bays and coves providing near shore habitat for birds and marine life, including nurseries for forage fish and salmon. •cultural heritage which is closely connected to the land through working farms and forests, beaches, hiking, biking and walking trails, and the views of Admiralty Inlet, Saratoga Passage and the Olympic and Cascade Mountains.
