by Bill Tierney 6th May 2025

Langley, WA (May 2, 2025) - Get ready for a weekend steeped in tradition, storytelling, and electrifying music as the Celtic spirit returns to Whidbey Island with the Celtic Festival May 8-10 at the Whidbey Island Center for the Arts (WICA).

The second annual Celtic Festival is bringing together renowned musicians and vibrant performers from across the Celtic world for three days of unforgettable entertainment. From haunting fiddles to foot-stomping rhythms, this immersive cultural celebration offers something for everyone, whether you're a lifelong lover of Celtic music or just discovering its magic for the first time.

“We were honored to once again have such talented Celtic artists on our stage,” says WICA Executive Artistic Director Deana Duncan. “Part of our mission is to bring world-renowned artists to Whidbey Island and to enrich lives through these powerful, shared experiences in the arts. The Celtic tradition is so strongly steeped in storytelling, and these artists bring those stories to life with each song. It is such a privilege to witness these concerts and to share them with the Whidbey community.”

From bagpipes to fiddle music, this heritage festival will get your toes tapping and will transport you to the Emerald Isle. With returning groups like the popular Tannahill Weavers and new talent like the Katie Jane Band, you don't want to miss out on this year’s world-class lineup. This is a rare chance to see powerhouse Celtic musicians from Ireland, Scotland, U.S./Portland, and Canada in one amazing weekend.

Kevin Burke: Ireland

A true legend in Irish traditional music, Kevin Burke will open the festival with a 7:30 p.m. performance on May 8. His fiddle playing is revered for its elegance, precision, and emotional depth. With a decades-long career and appearances alongside iconic groups like The Bothy Band and Patrick Street, Burke has brought Irish music to global audiences while staying rooted in its authentic tradition. His solo performance will showcase the lyrical phrasing and subtle storytelling that have made him a master of his craft.

Tannahill Weavers: Scotland

Back by popular demand, The Tannahill Weavers will be on the mainstage May 9 at 7:30 p.m. One of Scotland’s premier traditional bands, they have been trailblazers in the world of Celtic music for over 50 years. Known for their rousing blend of traditional melodies and modern arrangements, their shows are a powerful fusion of bagpipes, flutes, bouzoukis, and tight vocal harmonies. This special concert features guest Iain MacGillivray—piper, fiddler, and musical consultant for hit shows like Outlander and Men in Kilts—adding star power and historical flair to an already unforgettable performance.

Katie Jane Band: U.S./Portland

Portland-based Katie Jane Band will kick off the performances on May 10 with a 2:00 p.m. concert. Bursting with energy and charm, the Katie Jane Band delivers a whirlwind of high-speed fiddling, clever storytelling, and foot-stomping rhythms. Based in Portland, Oregon, this group is led by dynamic frontwoman Katie Jane—often dubbed “Portland’s hottest fiddler”—who brings magnetic stage presence and comedic timing to every performance. Perfect for families, this show promises laughter, music, and an irresistible call to dance.

Derina Harvey Band: Canada

The festival will close with the Derina Harvey Band (dHb) on May 10 at 7:30 p.m. Known for their vibrant performances and powerhouse vocals, the Derina Harvey Band offers a bold, contemporary take on East Coast Celtic rock. Hailing from Canada, dHb electrifies traditional maritime tunes with driving guitars, crashing percussion, and Derina’s signature voice—equal parts grit and grace. Their high-octane performance will close out the festival on a thrilling note, delivering a concert experience full of heart, history, and high energy. Come show your support and love for our Canadian artists.
