Sweet Sisters recently celebrated 20+ years in business by opening a new storefront on Main Street in Freeland! The shop showcases their line of over 100 skincare, hair-care, and body care products, each formulated with clean ingredients, hand-crafted in small batches, and hand-filled in eco-friendly packaging. Rooted in family, healing, and an artisanal approach to daily essentials, Sweet Sisters brings a rare depth of intention to personal care products.
From potent serums and artisan perfumes, to what customers have called the “perfect” body scrub (a.k.a. Cacao Coffee Mint Body Polish) and “the best lip balm ever” (a.k.a. Beetiful), each of Sweet Sisters’ products offers a nourishing, sensorial experi-ence. Karen Wilson, the founder and creative force behind Sweet Sisters notes: “The art of healthy body care, after all, isn’t just about clean ingredients and transformative re-sults. It’s also about cultivating moments of intentional self-care”
She adds: “Whether you’re washing your hands with Sweet Sisters soap, applying their Magnesium Butter to the soles of your feet before bed, or spritzing a favorite Aroma Mist to refresh a space, we hope our products will help you tune into your senses, return to center, and transform daily routine into daily ritual.”
Founded by Karen and her daughters, Terra and Rohanna — just 8 and 10 at the time — Sweet Sisters began with simple bars of soap sold at Bayview Farmers Market. While those beloved bars are still part of the line (they recently mailed 20 all the way to Japan!) and you can still find a Sweet Sisters booth at the Bayview Market every Satur-day from 10-2, the business continues to evolve.
When Karen was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021, she took a step back from daily operations to focus on her health. During this time, Rohanna returned to the Sweet Sis-ters crafting table to keep the small-batch goodness flowing. Now a cancer survivor, Ka-ren has refocused her energy on the creative side of things, rediscovering the joy of for-mulation and crafting limited-batch products for Sweet Sisters’ new “Artisan-Craft Se-ries.”
While Rohanna continues to help Sweet Sisters grow, Terra has pursued a career as a pediatric ICU nurse in Colorado and recently became a mother! Inspired by the arrival of her first grandchild, Karen created a collection of five ultra-gentle baby care essentials. “It’s the baby-care tool kit I wish I’d had when I first became a mother,” says Karen. “And now we can say our ‘Sweet Baby Set’ is pediatric ICU nurse approved!”
The new storefront is the latest milestone in Sweet Sisters’ evolution. Step inside and you’re greeted by the smell of blossoming botanicals, shelves lined with glass apothe-cary bottles, soft natural light, and grounding earth tones. PNW-based customers can come enjoy in-person shopping, samples galore, personalized recommendations, and soon they’ll be able to refill their empty bottles at the shop’s zero-waste refill station. “I can’t wait to stop in again,” comments Caitlin Stanton of Whidbey Herbal. “You have created such a beautiful, serene sanctuary in the middle of Freeland.”
Beyond the new shop, Sweet Sisters’ full range of offerings is also available at Bayview Farmers Market each Saturday from late April through mid-October, and online year-round at sweetsistersbodycare.com. Curated selections are available at beloved local shops, including edit. in Langley, Madrona Supply Co. in Clinton, and both Salinity and Bayview Garden in Bayview. Sweet Sisters also creates amenities for the Inn at Langley and the Boatyard Inn in Langley, supplies Alison Donam’s backbar at Salon All Is On in Clinton, and offers a “Travel Spa” bundle as a room add-on at the Captain Whidbey Inn in Coupeville.
Karen and Rohanna emphasize: “We’re so grateful for the local spots that embrace the art of healthy bodycare by sharing our offerings with their visitors. When locals and local businesses shop local, it really has a profound impact on the island’s economy — and when we take this a step further and shop locally grown and made, the impact is even greater!”
They also express their deep gratitude to everyone who has supported Sweet Sisters over the years and at their new location. “We feel so lucky to be a part of a community that appreciates small makers like us. We couldn’t do it without you.”
