The Country Store in Freeland provides a broad range of products for animals and excellent customer service

by Carolyn Tamler 23rd June 2025

Skagit Farmers Supply was started by farmers in 1934 in Skagit County as a way of supplying fuel for their farms. It rapidly grew into to a major source of all farming needs. Since the 1980’s it has operated as a full service agronomy cooperative with 10 locations in Washington.

The Country Store in Freeland, which is a division of Skagit Farmers Supply, was originally opened in Downtown Freeland in 1989.  The current Country Store in Freeland, at Cameron Road, just off Highway 525, was opened in October 2011, and it has become a major source of agriculture supplies and propane services for people on South Whidbey Island.  Recently, the Country Store has added a major garden section with a broad selection of starter plants and seeds.

Visiting the Country Store is an excellent way to have all of your questions answered about farm animals and domestic animals, as well as how to develop and maintain an agronomy (“the science of soil management and crop production”).

The Country Store in Freeland is managed by Belinda Permenter, and interestingly, she notes that all of the managers at the stores on the west side are women. The Freeland store currently has 14 employees, including two managers. Belinda notes, “We offer the best customer service.” She has often been told that the employees at the store are “very nice.”

The facility provides an almost overwhelming supply of chicken feed, duck food, and a broad range of other animal and supplies.

One of the most popular products is little chicks for sale:
