Jan Naud moved to Whidbey Island from Los Angeles in January of this year to be near her sister, Dawn Pinaud, who is the owner of Coffee at Dawn’s on Crawford Road in Langley.
Jan started training dogs as a child, walking them around her neighborhood. She says, “I have worked with animals most of my life.” She lived in Florida for several years, and trained animals to perform. She worked with big cats and elephants. She moved to Los Angeles in 2000 where she worked at a rescue and rehabilitation center for wild animals.
In Los Angeles she created a doggie daycare. Her love of working with dogs led her to become a professional dog trainer, a job she had for 25 years before her sister Jan encouraged her to move to Whidbey Island.
Now, Jan is working to build her business on Whidbey as a “Dog Trainer” and an “Animalogist.” She specializes in working with humans and how they care for their dogs, similar to the horse whisperer “Buck” who has the same philosophy for training people to work with horses. Just as Buck has done, Jan works with humans to help them learn how to be gentle and provide food rewards for their dogs, and, more than anything else, to learn how to treat their animals with respect.
Jan can work with dogs and their owners (or are humans simply the “managers” of the dog activities?). She is especially skilled at working with people who have specific problems with their dogs, and helping people better understand the value of good nutrition for their animals. She does her work in her own home on Whidbey, or she also offers an option of going to a person’s home.
Jan is always available to help even if you live outside of the Whidbey Island, Washington area. You can connect via telephone or text (818-261-6963), email (jannaud1919@gmail.com), or even better, through Zoom. Remote training can be very effective, so give it a try!
If you’d like to talk with Jan about your dog and any concerns you have, you can give her a call. If you want more information about her “Training as a Team” business, you can check out her website: www.trainingasateam.com
