Attention cyclists! The Tour de Whidbey is one of the most beautiful rides in Washington and it’s coming up fast. Join us for this wonderful event on Saturday, Aug. 19 from the new starting point at Coupeville Elementary School at 6 South Main Street in Coupeville.
Travel the back roads of Whidbey Island for gorgeous vistas, breathtaking scenery and varied terrain! Riders have three routes to choose from, each with a hospitality break-station every 10-12 miles through Central and North Whidbey, including the Whidbey Century 100-mile route, the Metric Century Plus 67-mile route and the Half Metric Century 33-mile route. A family-friendly 10-mile route is also available around Coupeville. (Check out the route maps here: whidbeyhealth.org/giving/tour-de-whidbey)
After the ride, head across the street from the starting point to the Penn Cove Brewing Company Taproom at 103 S. Main St., where riders can listen to music and enjoy delicious food, beer, wine or non-alcoholic beverages. The fine folks there will offer Tour de Whidbey riders $2 off each $10 purchase plus $5 beer tasting flights!
Kids can also enjoy face painting and a skills course from noon to 5 p.m. at Harada Physical Therapy, next door to the Taproom at 101 S. Main St. in Coupeville.
Register online at active.com; Tour de Whidbey webpage (whidbeyhealth.org/giving/tour-de-whidbey); or pick up a registration form at Dean’s Sports Plus or Skagit Cycle Center in Oak Harbor, Bayview Bicycles in Langley, or in the WhidbeyHealth Medical Center lobby in Coupeville. Cyclists can also register from 7 to 9:30 a.m. on the day of the ride at the Coupeville Elementary School start site.
Please note that the Tour de Whidbey is hosted by the WhidbeyHealth Foundation and proceeds from the event support quality healthcare for all residents of Whidbey Island.
