Us humans have made so many advancements, in technology, in science, in health care, in so many areas, and yet there isn't a corresponding increase in human happiness. If we look, we can see that our unbridled desires, our seeking happiness from external sources, have actually increased the suffering in the world. Our world is more dangerous and polluted than ever before. If we look around, we can see that humans are more stressed, more depressed, and more anxious than ever. Why is this? Because Happiness and suffering are states of mind, and their causes can't be found outside of the mind. No matter what we create externally, it will not bring the happiness that our hearts long for. By contemplating this, we can understand that true, lasting happiness, comes from inside, comes from our heart, our mind, and when we create peace in our heart, through familiarizing our mind with it's causes, happiness effortlessly arises. Doesn't that sound amazing? It doesn't mean challenges will stop coming, it just means that our response will be very different, with a peaceful mind, we can respond to even the most difficult situations in the best way. In the most productive way.We just need to train our mind, familiarize it with the causes of happiness. This is meditation.
