http://cbkoetje.com/oak-harbor-holland-happening-2014/ An anticipated celebration of Dutch Heritage comes to Oak Harbor, Washington every year -in late April for the last 45 years. Packed with entertainment, Oak Harbor shuts down the historic downtown Pioneer Way to make room for fun festivities for all ages! The community, and its businesses participate by setting up vendors, presenting live entertainment, volunteering and participating in events. People come from all over the island -- and off the island for this occasion -- and for good reason! Incorporating the Dutch Heritage- businesses, clubs, schools and many other organizations decorate floats and dress up in costumes for the grande parade! The Parade starts off with a traditional announcement from the Town Crier -of the mayor and city council members presence and and proclaiming "let the parade begin!" Following the Town Crier are the street sweepers, in their traditional wooden shoes! The whole island comes together for the parade festivities! There is more than just a parade! There are several events for community and visitors to participate in. This year featured a traditional Dutch dinner, a 5K and 1-mie dash --called the Eagle Run, a pancake breakfast, and the Klomplen canal races held out at Deception pass. Many visitors take advantage of exploring Oak Harbor's historic downtown shops and take a trip down to the Tulip Festivities! There is so much to see and so much to do for locals and non-locals. The street fairs are packed full of fun for everyone! There are arts and crafts, booths for local artists to show off and sell their works of art, traditional food vendors- as well as for those in the community, live performances -- including a band, and many more fun activities. People can travel down closer to the beach to eat fair food, ride carnival rides, and play carnival games! There is no end to the fun of Holland Happening! Oak Harbor, Washington is full of fun events that the community comes together for, Holland Happening is just one of many! Coldwell Banker Koetje Real Estate is proud to be involved in such a fun and caring community!
