OUTDOOR BURNING BAN
IN ISLAND COUNTY
TYPE I BURN BAN IN EFFECT
AS OF: Midnight on Thursday, October 3, 2025
NO OUTDOOR BURNING OF NATURAL DEBRIS – EVEN WITH A PERMIT.
RECREATIONAL FIRES ARE ALLOWED IN APPROVED FIRE PITS*
- The use of propane or briquette barbecue grills, or self-contained camp stoves, is also permitted.
PROCLAMATION and PUBLIC NOTICE
WHEREAS, by October 3, 2025, atmospheric conditions of reduced moisture levels, low humidity, and warmer weather have increased the risk of fire within the confines of Island County,
THEREFORE, in concurrence with the Fire Protection Districts of Whidbey and Camano Islands and the Northwest Clean Air Agency, I, Sheriff Rick Felici, serving as the Island County Fire Marshal, do hereby proclaim a BAN on ALL outdoor burning (except for recreational fires) within the entirety of Island County.
REPORT VIOLATIONS TO 911
As weather conditions and fuel moisture levels have lowered the fire risk somewhat, we are reducing the burn ban to Level 1. This will allow for recreational campfires in approved fire pits. Please note that this change does not include permitted fires such as clearing burn piles, etc. We will likely be able to lift the ban entirely in the near future if conditions continue to improve. Thank you for your patience and cooperation.
SHERIFF RICK FELICI, Island County Fire Marshal
