Gideon Freudmann has established a unique reputation for his cello performances, both solo and with several other musicians.
He grew up in New England where he earned a degree in Music Performance and established himself in the Northeast as a performing and recording artist. He moved to Portland, Oregon in 2005, and then to Whidbey Island in 2021, where he settled and plays in local venues with other musicians on the island.
He embarked on his musical career exploring a broad range of genres including rock, folk, classical, jazz, and blues. He comments, “I always knew I wanted to play music.”

He has toured throughout the US and internationally in Australia, Taiwan and Europe. His most recent shows included stops in Idaho, Montana, Washington and Oregon. In addition to solo performances, he has partnered with various local musicians to create unique and distinct styles and sounds. His move to Whidbey happened in the usual way…. where someone created an invitation for him to visit. He did a house concert for Whidbey resident Robbie Cribbs and the two have worked on recording projects together. He discovered that Whidbey is where he prefers to call home.
Gideon’s current projects include concerts, accompanying silent films, recording film/video soundtracks and composing sheet music.
Since moving to Whidbey, Gideon formed the “King Tide Trio” with Gloria Ferry-Brennan and Linda Vogt who are both outstanding violinists. He writes and arranges the music for the group. He has been composing sheet music for several years (mostly for cello ensembles) and he says playing with King Tide Trio has motivated him to expand his catalog.
Gideon also performs on Whidbey with Rachman Ross who is an amazing drummer/percussionist, and they have a band named Bigfoot Unicorn. The music in this setting is more funky, experimental and improvisational.
