Dancers of the Island Dance Performing Group (IDPG), who are students of Island Dance in Langley, delivered an outstanding showing at the Imagine Dance Challenge March 27-29 in Seattle. This local team earned top overall placements, special invitations and multiple choreography honors, while representing Whidbey Island with their excellence.
Competing against studios from across the region, Island Dance competitors were recognized not only for their technical strength, but for their artistry and performance quality—an acknowledgment that Island Dance owner and team director Jamee Pitts says made a lasting impact.
“When so much heart and intention go into the work, to have that seen and honored is incredibly meaningful,” Pitts said.

Leading the awards was Madison Guzman, a South Whidbey High School senior, who earned “First Overall” in her division along with a Dancerpalooza Scholarship. Additional top overall placements included Sadie McKnight (Third Overall Showcase), Jade Hezel (Fourth Overall Showcase), and Lainey Dodge (Fourth Overall Elite), with strong showings from Evangeline Bear and Maliya Thrasher, who both placed Sixth Overall in their competitive division.
Group performances brought some of the weekend’s highest honors. The senior small group piece “Ptolemea” earned First Overall in the 15–19 division, was named Regional SDA Champion, and received a “Golden Ticket” along with a Choreography Award. The trio piece “Warrior” choreographed by Taqouri Pitts, placed first in its category and third overall.
Standout soloist Everleah Turner earned Second Overall, a Dancerpalooza invitation, and a Power Pak invite, highlighting her as one of the weekend’s top emerging performers. Additional Power Pak invitations were awarded to Evangeline Bear, Lainey Dodge and Maci Goodman.
Director Pitts was also recognized with two Choreography Awards, an honor she described as especially meaningful. “One of the pieces recognized holds a very personal and emotional place for me,” she said. “To have that work received in this way was incredibly special.”
Island Dance, a long-standing pillar of the Whidbey Island arts community, continues to uphold its mission of building artists, athletes and community through high-level training and performance opportunities.

“This weekend wasn’t just about awards,” Pitts added. “It was about growth, connection and continuing to raise the standard for what our dancers bring to the stage.”
The team now looks ahead to the remainder of their season, carrying forward the momentum from a weekend that celebrated both achievement and artistry.
