The Onyx Moon, an eco-friendly apothecary, has just opened in Freeland

by Carolyn Tamler 13th April 2026

One of the fun things about living on South Whidbey is noticing and visiting the wide-ranging number of retail stores doing business here.  A new business, The Onyx Moon, just opened in downtown Freeland.

The business is owned by Jocelyn Cole, who has a store in Oak Harbor – “Oaklawn Enchantments” – that drew visitors from the south end of the island. Jocelyn was born in Kansas and left there in 2000 with her husband.  They moved to Whidbey Island in 2022 where her husband was stationed. Jocelyn says what she especially likes about Whidbey is that it is “serene and beautiful.”

People who lived in South Whidbey were often telling Jocelyn, “I wish your store was closer to where I live.” Jocelyn and her husband looked for a year for a location on South Whidbey that would work for them.  They also had a strong feeling of wanting to do something for the community. The Onyx Moon is described by Jocelyn as “An intentional living store, with items that are good for the earth, for the environment and people’s bodies.”

The store specializes in mindful home and beauty products, as well as offering a botanical apothecary, and seasonal ritual offerings. A visit to the store at 1638 E. Main Street in Freeland is an introduction to a large assortment of products that “encourage spiritual and earth-mindful space.”

Jocelyn has an educational background that supports her knowledge of the products she chooses to sell. She received a bachelor’s degree in “Health and Wellness” from Perdue University in Indiana.

The Onyx Moon is open Wednesday – Saturday, 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. To get an idea of what is offered before you visit, you can look at their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/people/The-Onyx-Moon/61587284817495/
