Vanessa Cameron and Sarah Birger have established Insula Yoga in Freeland

by Carolyn Tamler 4th May 2026

Insula Yoga will hold its open house on May 8. It’s an opportunity for the community to learn about their offerings and its benefits.

Insula means “Island” in Latin, and is the part of the brain that brings self-awareness, body awareness, and social awareness. Vanessa and Sarah have a broad range of experience and offerings that share the focus on helping clients navigate life’s stressors and transitions. Vanessa (Maven Alchemy Acupuncture) focuses on trauma-informed yoga, yoga nidra, and acupuncture that supports resilience, growth, and transformation. Sarah (Better Balance Yoga Therapy) focuses on helping clients navigate aging and finding balance in the midst of storms to be stronger, more resilient, and in right relationship with their true self and others through private yoga therapy sessions and group classes.

Their goal is to create a community space where all feel safe to breathe, restore, and balance – body, mind, and soul. They have invited local yoga teachers Leah Barnett, Alexis Burroughs, Lauren Flynn, and Emily Gilligan to offer their own classes and feel that the Whidbey community is the right place to offer these classes that encourage: “Learning to listen to our bodies;” and “quieting our minds in community.”

Their website provides a description of the many services and classes that are available: https://www.insulayoga.com/ Vanessa and Sarah are members of Whidbey Island Holistic Health Associates. Insula Yoga currently offers many ongoing classes, yoga workshops, acupuncture and special events.

The open house will be from 4-7 pm on Friday and be an opportunity to learn more, meet everyone, and see the studio at 5570 S Harbor Ave, Unit A, in Freeland.
