Whidbey Island’s very own SPUNKS Pumpkin Seeds

SPUNKS Pumpkin Seeds are hand produced in Freeland, on Whidbey Island. SPUNKS are uniquely seasoned, dry roasted pumpkin seeds with no shell. We only process pumpkin seeds in our facility, so No worries about nut allergies.

SPUNKS are great for snacks, on the go, lunchboxes, or soup and salad toppers.

SPUNKS was created by Rolands Juris Abermanis. He and his wife, Jennifer, lived in New Orleans, where they mastered the art of seasoning. In1997 Rolands and Jennifer moved to Bothell Washington.

Rolands was making SPUNKS in small batches to bring to gatherings to share. One of the guests suggested that Rolands try selling at a local farmers market. He set up at the Bothell farmers market and sold out of the product within an hour.

The SPUNKS store came into being in 2010. Rolands' first purchase of raw pumpkin seeds was 50 lbs. After gaining momentum in sales by word of mouth and sampling the product, Rolands went all in and started marketing and visiting grocery stores. Rolands and Jennifer landed a distributor in partnership with Charlie's produce which led to their investing in a new dry roaster, packaging equipment, and a peanut free manufacturing facility.

Covid happened, and suddenly they were not allowed to give out samples; gatherings, farmers' markets, and festivals were all cancelled. They managed to survive and decided to move the business from Bothell to their new home in Freeland. They currently have one employee.

Rolands says: “Try our SPUNKS dry roasted pumpkin seeds and put a little SPUNK into your life.”  SPUNKS are packaged in a re-sealable stand-up pouch with a convenient hang hole; they are sold in 2 oz. and 5 oz. bags. For wholesale customers, they offer a 2 oz. (24 count) case or 5 oz. (12 count) case.

SPUNKS can be purchased locally at Foxtail Farms, 3 Sisters Market, Salinity Seafood, Payless Foods, The Goose Grocery, Bayview Farmers Market, Oak Harbor Farmers market, Hansons building Supply, Ace Hardware and at Island Athletic Club.

In 2026 We have shifted our sales focus to more online sales. SHOPIFY will handle retail sales and FAIRE wholesale for those wishing to carry our product in their stores. Rolands adds: “We are very happy with what we have accomplished, and my wife Jennifer and I get to spend more time together doing what we love!”
