Jennifer Hua, owner of The Top Restaurant, was born in China and moved to the United States 27 years ago. She began her restaurant career with restaurants in Greenwood and Des Moines before learning about Whidbey Island. During her early days in America, she was a food vendor at fairs and traveled all over the United States. She learned English in high school, so she was able to make an easy transition to life in America. Her travels took her to Canada and Australia as well as America. She says, “I like to see and learn about other countries.”
She notes: “A realtor introduced me to Whidbey Island seven years ago, and I purchased what was then Hong Kong Gardens.” She adds,” I love the community and I love living on Whidbey.”
The Top has become known on South Whidbey for excellent Chinese food and stunning views that look out from a hilltop toward Everett and the Cascade Mountains.Besides offering food and views, The Top has developed the largest bar on Whidbey Island with a great selection of spirits

In the summertime, The Top offers outdoor seating with a panoramic view of the mainland. There is also lots of indoor seating in a comfortable environment. The Top often features local artists doing a variety of music.
Jennifer has well-trained servers, including three of her children: Josh, 12, Esan, 9 and Alex who is 24.She notes: “We are always working to improve our food and customer services. We pride ourselves on having excellent food and a comfortable environment.”
The Top is currently open weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and on Fridays and Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. The Top is an excellent place to take visitors to Whidbey for the food, the service and the great views of the mainland.
