About this Event

Are you a fan of a movie with a fantastic film score? If you hear the music independent of the movie, can you play images from the movie in your head?

Join us for a Concert Talk with Saratoga Orchestra Music Director Anna Edwards as she preps us to enjoy the May 17 & 18 concert series, Reel Music – From Stage to Screen. This concert talk will provide background on work of John Williams, known for Hollywood blockbusters like The Empire Strikes Back and Joe Hisaishi, a composer celebrated for scoring of Japanese Anime feature films such as Spirited Away.

You’ll also hear about Howard Shore’s score for Lord of the Rings, The Return of the King and Patrick Doyle’s score for Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Anna will also discuss the one-act opera Boatswain's Mate by Ethel Smyth (1858-1944) because the Saratoga Orchestra’s upcoming concert series will highlight the work of this talented composer, who also happened to be an activist in the women’s suffrage movement in the United Kingdom.

Please register in advance. Registered participants will be given a place holder ticket when they arrive for the program.  At 5 minutes to show time all remaining seats will become general admission on a first come basis.
