About this Event

Do you love taking walks on the beach or kayaking around the island? Have you wondered what to do if you come across a stranded seal, sea lion, pup, whale, dolphin, or porpoise? Join Garry Heinrich to learn about the marine mammals of the Salish Sea and what to do when you find a marine mammal on the beach.

Garry is the Response Coordinator and Investigator for the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network. He currently holds a 200-ton masters license and works part time as a Captain on west coast tall ships. He has been a marine mammal keeper/vet aide at Marineland of the Pacific in California and has taught marine science at the Los Angeles Maritime Institute. Garry received his marine mammal naturalist certification from the Whale Center on San Juan Island in 2010.
