Murder in Langley Every February!
Every February since 1984, someone gets murdered in Langley, and 2026 is no exception. Mystery Weekend 2026 will take place February 21-22.
This year’s story was written by Mystery Weekend veterans Mike Hill and Rachel McDougald with the theme “Terminal Velocity.” The story involves zeppelins, stinky cheese, pirates and foodies. It’s all goofy fun.
Twenty-six volunteer actors will try to outsmart nearly 3,000 amateur detectives who come from all over to try to solve the crime. Actors create their own costumes and back stories, and ad lib their way through two days of questioning.
To play, sleuths can buy their tickets in advance online at www.visitlangley.com. Will call opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, February 21 for those who have purchased tickets in advance. Cost is $17 for adults, or $13 for seniors (65+), military or youth.
Or sleuths can buy tickets in person at the Langey Chamber of Commerce office (Mystery Headquarters) at 208 Anthes Avenue starting at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 21 and Sunday, February 22.
Sleuths will pick up clues from 40 businesses in the downtown core. They will also be provided with a copy of the Langley Gazette, with fake news articles about the crime and suspects. Suspect photos are published in the Mystery Weekend program, along with a synopsis of the story and further instructions for playing the game.
The murderer will be revealed and “arrested” at 5 p.m. on Sunday, February 22 at the Whidbey Island Children’s Theater.
