About this Event

Whidbey Island is home to a unique herd of Northern Elephant Seals, the second largest of all pinnipeds. Garry Heinrich from the Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network will talk about Whidbey's seals--Ellie, the matriarch, Ellison and Elsie Mae, her pups, as well as Emerson, Elsie's first pup born in 2022 in Bowman Bay. Learn about common Elephant Seal behavior, what to do if you encounter an Elephant Seal on a beach, and how to ensure the future health and longevity of these curious pinnipeds.

The Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network is a partnership between Orca Network, wildlife veterinarians and biologists and NOAA Fisheries, with trained staff and volunteers. Garry is a certified mammal naturalist and former math and science teacher.
