About this Event

Get your hands dirty and leave your mark! Learn about why humans love making little figures, get inspired, and make your very own "Little Guy" sculpture to take home.

Throughout history, humans have had the urge to dig their hands in mud and make small sculptures, AKA "little guys." Be they representative of ourselves, like the Venus of Willendorf, or of the pets and animals that live around us, or of imaginary and fantastical creatures such as sphinxes and totems, little guys have existed in every time and culture. People can't help themselves - we love to make little guys!

Local artist, Katie Basch, has received permission from award-winning author, cartoonist, installation artist, game designer, and marionette builder Shing Yin Khor to create this class based on their concept of "little guys."

An artist, metalsmith, and jeweler, Katie loves sharing her enthusiasm for what she learns. As her favorite lapidary society taught her, "Each one, teach one!"

Shing Yin Khor (they/them) is a multidisciplinary artist exploring mythic Americana and the American Dream, in conversation with queer immigrant identity, new diasporic traditions, and rituals of labor. Their work is anchored in a lineage of ancient physical material and practice (clay, wood, paper) and human mark-making (pencil, chisel, hand).

This class is appropriate for tweens, teens, and adults age 18 to 200.
Register to attend.
