Experience the joy of creating items that will bless your community. Inspired by the Knit-Wits in Remarkably Bright Creatures, our gathering of Knit-Wits and Loopers will, through our collective knitting and crocheting, support Warming Whidbey and Partners for Young Children.
Specifically, Warming Whidbey needs homemade knit or crochet hats, scarves, mittens/gloves, baby blankets (40*40), or lap blankets. They also need worsted-weight acrylic and wool yarns, so this date is a great time to drop off your extra supplies!
Partners for Young Children needs 150+ crocheted octopuses for their Newborn Outreach kits. The eight curly arms of these cute dolls are easy to grasp, providing tactile stimulation for infants. Download the octopus pattern or pick one up at the Freeland Library. Materials will be provided for the octopuses or bring your own 100% cotton or cotton/bamboo blend, worsted weight.
This is an open house style event where you will enjoy the camaraderie of fellow Knit-Wits and Loopers--when you can and for as long as you can. Stop by and drop off finished projects and/or stay a while to work together. We will have needles and hooks for use during the event, but please bring your own otherwise.
Not a knitter or a crocheter? Want to help without committing to finishing a project? We will have knitting spools waiting for you to add inches or feet to a cord that will be sewn into scarves.
This event is part of Sno-Isle Reads Together. The 2026 selection is Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. Discover additional Sno-Isle Reads Together events, including three opportunities to meet the author. Sno-Isle Reads Together is funded by the Sno-Isle Libraries Foundation.
